Yes, and the Republicans of his era were generally more urban and Northern or Northeastern. The Democrats of that era were generally Southern, agrarian and localist. And while there was racism on both sides (as there is today) the Democrats represented the racist, pro-slavery South. What party is big in the South these days? The Republicans. And what party is big in urban and metropolitan areas of America? The Democrats.
The parties are still much the same - they just switched names:

Old Racist Democrats = New Racist Republicans
Old Equality-Seeking Republicans = New Equality-Seeking Democrats
You should refrain from calling names, mainly because it makes you appear ignorant (which is probably true since you didn't know about basic party realignment), but also because anyone who says 'libturd' is obviously a few bricks short of a load.
