Petunia’s story...
Petunia was found by an Animal Care and Control Officer on the street. He felt she had been abused by the condition of her face. Petunia was rescued from the kill shelter by her now foster parent. When she was found at the shelter she was lying in her urine on a concrete floor in isolation. She had fleas, tape worm, large amounts of blood in her stool, diarrhea, kennel cough and was weak from the whole ordeal. Although she was listless she still had enough energy in her little body to nuzzle her furry, snaggle toothed head under her now foster moms chin. Her to be foster mom couldn’t leave the little dog there lying on the cold floor, weak, stinky yet lovable... so thus began Petunia’s new life! Petunia came home to San Francisco after an hour and 1/2 drive. She remained listless on the passenger seat, occasionally lifting her head to see who this woman was beside her. That night she had to be taken outside every 2 hours to go the bathroom leaving her foster mom tired and Petunia even weaker. Petunia went to the vet 2 days later on that Monday morning to have an open “wound” in her mouth looked at among other things. She was given a deworming pill, Baytril to stop the bleeding, her shots and age assessment. It all came to a lot of money. After one week of good nutrition, medication and a loving home, Petunia is a different dog. She’s thriving! Now she needs to be spayed and have an operation to close the fistula (open wound) leading to her sinus cavity. It will include skin grafting and other complicated procedures. The operation to have both the spay and fistula fixed is estimated at $1,200. Doesn’t need a leash because she will walk with you, but I always bring one anyway.

Sleeps in until she hears her food being poured into her bowl. She’d prefer to sleep in all day if she had her way I think.
